New Chapter

First recollection of Josie was her Welsh Father, who she idolised, Arthur Joseph 'Joe'Williams and her Irish/Jewish mother Hattie. Josie's Father was very victorian in his ways, reasoning and morals. He was a strict disciplinarian and once tried to ban his daughter from seeing her future husband because he saw them holding hands in the street near his home. Josie had a younger sister, Brenda, who she loved. They were very close right up to Josie returning to the Welsh family home in Pontnewynydd in the early Nineties. Josie was in service at Hestley Hall, working in the kitchens. Her boyfriend at that time Don Lindsay would later marry Josie. He was a Fitter by trade and worked for British rail. When they married they got a flat together in Intake, Doncaster. In the mid fifties Don and Josie decided to go into business and took the tenancy of the Stag Inn Doncaster. By now they had their first two children. Jane first and then Simon, Nicholas would come next, being born whilst Josie Lived at the Stag. Josie would stay there until she moved back to Wales to look after her Fathers sisters. Katie and Dorsie Williams. They were both able to pass away peacefully and at home thanks to Josies care and help. In the late nineties, when the Stag Inn was sold, Don would return to his wifes side in Wales and when the family home, which was built by Josies family in the 1800's, was sold to cover Dons bad debts, they moved into sheltered accomodation in Pontnewynydd. It broke Josies heart but always the fighter she carried on until her demise. Marriage. Josie married Donald Ernest Lindsay. He was a bit of a lad by all accounts and didn't mind roughing it up. He came from a broken home and didn't forgive his mother for splitting up with his father. Their marriage went on like all marriages of the day until Don began working in nightclubs and the inevitable happened. Don started with the affairs and Josies marriage became abusive as her husband tried to stop her questions and complaints. This did not stop her love though for Don, and she would stay with him till the end. Even through the times friends and customers told her of the affairs, the threatening phone calls, even reputedly when she caught him 'Flagrant Delicti' in his car with another woman and having their children with her to witness the disgrace , she never once left him. The physical abuse stopped but the mental abuse continued as Don set up a home for his mistress and over the years to have two children with her, but Josie remained by his side, even with knowledge of what was going on around her. The final act of devotion came when Josie had to sell her beloved family home to fund Dons lifestyle and move into accommodation. Et tu brute.
